Ngaire Button

for Te Tai Tonga

Ngaire is an energetic and passionate leader who will not take "no" for an answer when there are issues that need to be addressed.

Nine years as an elected member in the Christchurch City Council including the last 3 as Deputy Mayor have prepared this mother of 6 for a life of political leadership.

I believe that over the last 3 years since 2011,Te Tai Tonga has been under represented. There are needs everywhere I look, housing, funding for community organisations, poverty and access to health services to name a few. Who is advocating to get these challenges addressed? I have the time, the energy and the determination to meet these challenges head on and give Te Tai Tonga the representation we deserve.

Ngaire is no stranger to hardship having existed on a solo parents benefit during her 20s as she raised her first two children on her own.

It was a real struggle and heart breaking for me that I couldn't give my children the things that other kids had. I determined in my heart that one day I would invest my life in making a difference so that others would not have to struggle the way I did.
